- Netflix announced Thursday that Peter Rice will replace Bela Bajaria as chief content officer, effective Oct. 26.
- Bajaria had been with Netflix for nearly 10 years and most recently led the global content team, including its live sports strategy.
- Rice most recently oversaw Disney's cable channels, news programming and coverage of major sporting events. He will oversee Netflix's global content organization, including scripted and unscripted series, film and live events.
- The announcement came a day after Netflix eliminated approximately 6% of its workforce, or roughly 1,000 jobs.
- Netflix shares are down more than 20% this year and were little changed in extended trading Thursday. The company reports its next quarterly earnings on Tuesday.
