Chinese container liners are set for an earnings windfall as customers rush shipments ahead of shifting tariffs and persistent shipping disruptions lift freight rates.
The Drewry World Container Index peaked at $4,639 per 40-foot container in the week ended July 9 after global container rates more than doubled during Q2.
The freight-rate peak was the highest since 2024, when Houthi attacks in the Red Sea disrupted containership operations.
